We have an outstanding opportunity for a Soundside Producer 3 (Producer 3) to produce multimedia content for KUOW radio programming with a focus on daily news talk shows including broadcast audio, web content, video, podcasts, and events.
This position supports KUOW’s flagship daily show – Soundside. Collaborates with the show’s supervising producer, editor, and host to ensure Soundside is destination listening for news and conversation. Develops pitches and researches topics. Produces multiple segments per week, including all scripting and post-production. Assists with project management, live show direction, and long-term planning as assigned. Creates web posts for assigned segments.
JOB SUCCESS SUMMARY
A successful senior producer on Soundside will thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment. They will have outstanding communication skills, the ability to meet quick deadlines, and a nose for news stories that will entice and interest local listeners. This position is team oriented: maintaining positive relationships internally, and supporting fellow producers, editor, and host with production needs is essential.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Individual Segment Production (65%)
• Identify interesting and important news stories grounded in the Pacific Northwest.
• Oversee execution of multiple segments per week. This includes researching, pitching, booking, scripting, engineering, and mixing. Identifies and pre-interviews new voices to have on air.
• Hosts segments when requested.
• Executes work and planning independently, makes decisions and initiates actions with some consultation from an editor. Creates solutions for problems and adjusts quickly to change.
Editing (20%)
• Edit scripts and tape for fellow producers quickly and thoroughly. In depth listening, providing clear and concise notes on needed changes for both day of stories, and longer chases.
Project management (10%)
• Work with Supervising Producer to conceptualize and plan long-term and special coverage. Coach and direct production team to deliver segments on a daily basis. Fill in for Supervising Producer or editor when needed.
Other duties as assigned (5%)
• May back up other producers as assigned;
• Attends and participates in department or organization meeting trainings;
• Provide production support for on-air fundraising drives;
• Support internal station initiatives.

Requirements include:
• Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional broadcast journalism experience of increasing responsibility with a background in talk programming and radio production or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Requires knowledge of professional broadcast and journalistic standards and practices.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Working Conditions
• Duties may occasionally require evening and weekend work when necessary to meet critical deadlines.
• Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions.
